It had been the main competitor of Matchbox until 1997, when Mattel purchased Tyco Toys, then-owner of Matchbox.

Many auto manufacturers have licensed Hot Wheels to make scale models of their cars, permitting using first layout patterns and detailing. Though Hot Wheels were originally meant for kids and young adults, they’ve become popular with mature collectors, such as limited edition versions are now made available.

Racing track Collection

Along with the cars themselves, Mattel produced a racing track record (sold individually). Even though it could be upgraded during the years, the first track consisted of a set of brightly colored orange street segments (pieced together to make an oblong, circular race track), with one (or occasionally two) “super hitter” (artificial service channels through which cars passed on the paths, including battery-powered spinning wheels( which could propel the cars along the tracks).

Through time, Hot Wheels cars are collected mostly by kids, but in the previous 15 years[vague] there has been a growth in the amount of mature collectors. Mattel estimates that 41 million kids grew up playing with all the toys, the normal collector has over 1,550 automobiles, and kids between the ages of 5 and 15 have an average of 41 cars. Most believe the collecting craze began with the Treasure Hunts at 1995. Mike Strauss was known as the father of Hot Wheels amassing; he has arranged two collectors’ occasions each year in some sort since 1986. The first event was the yearly Hot Wheels Collectors Convention, generally held each year in the fall. The conference occurred in various locations around the nation before 2001, when the first Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals was put together. The Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals rotate among cities outside of California throughout the spring. Strauss has also published the quarterly Hot Wheels Newsletter since 1986 and has been among the very first to unite collectors all over the world. In addition, he writes on the Tomart’s Guide To Hot Wheels, a publication listing history, car descriptions and worth, which is used by almost every collector to find out more about the hobby along with their collection. Strauss sold his set from 2011 and retired in the Hot Wheels Newsletter.
