Racing track set
In addition to the cars themselves, Mattel produced a racing track set (sold separately). Although it would be upgraded during the years, the first track consisted of a collection of brightly colored orange street sections (pieced together to form an oblong( circular race track), with a single (or occasionally two) “super walkers” (artificial service channels by which cars passed onto the paths, including battery-powered spinning wheels, which could propel the cars across the tracks).
During the years, Hot Wheels cars are collected mostly by kids, but at the previous 15 years[vague] there’s been a growth in the amount of adult collectors. Mattel estimates that 41 million kids grew up playing with all the toys, the typical collector has over 1,550 cars, and children between the ages of 5 and 15 have a mean of 41 automobiles. Most consider the collecting craze began with this Treasure Hunts at 1995. Mike Strauss has been known as the father of Hot Wheels amassing; he has organized two collectors’ events annually in some form since 1986. The first event was the Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Convention, usually held every year at the autumn. The conference happened in various locations around the country before 2001, once the first Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals was put together. Since then, the Conventions are held each year in southern California. The Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals rotate among cities out of California through the spring. Strauss has also published the quarterly Hot Wheels Newsletter since 1986 and has been among the very first to combine collectors all over the world. In addition, he writes on the Tomart’s Guide Into Hot Wheels, a publication listing history, car descriptions and worth, which can be used by nearly every collector to learn more about the hobby along with their own collection. Strauss sold his set from 2011 and retired in the Hot Wheels Newsletter.
