Hot Wheels is a new 1:64, 1:43, 1:18 and 1:50 scale die-cast toy cars introduced by American toy maker Mattel in 1968. It had been the main competitor of Matchbox until 1997, when Mattel bought Tyco Toys, then-owner of Matchbox.
Even though Hot Wheels were originally intended for children and young adults, they’ve become popular with mature lovers, for whom limited edition models are currently made available.
Racing track set
Besides the cars themselves, Mattel made a racing track record (sold individually). Although it would be updated during time, the original track consisted of a string of brightly colored orange road sections (pieced together to make an oblong( circular race track), together with one (or sometimes two) “super hitter” (faux service channels through which cars passed onto the paths, featuring battery-powered spinning wheels, which could propel the cars across the paths).
Through time, Hot Wheels cars are gathered mostly by kids, but at the last 15 years[vague] there’s been a rise in the number of adult collectors. Mattel estimates that 41 million kids grew up playing with the toys, the typical collector has over 1,550 automobiles, and children between the ages of 5 and 15 have a mean of 41 cars. Most believe the collecting trend started with the Treasure Hunts in 1995. Mike Strauss was called the father of Hot Wheels collecting; he’s organized two collectors’ events annually in some form since 1986. The very first event was the yearly Hot Wheels Collectors Convention, normally held each year at the autumn. The convention occurred in a variety of locations around the country until 2001, once the very first Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals was set together. Ever since then, the Conventions are held every year in southern California. The Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals rotate among cities outside of California through the spring. Strauss has also released the Rs Hot Wheels Newsletter since 1986 and has been among the very first to unite collectors all over the world. He also writes on the Tomart’s Guide To Hot Wheels, a book listing history, auto descriptions and worth, which is used by nearly every collector to learn more about the hobby and also their collection. Strauss sold his group from 2011 and retired from the Hot Wheels Newsletter.
