Racing track set

In addition to the cars themselves, Mattel made a racing track record (sold separately). Though it would be upgraded throughout the years, the original track consisted of a collection of brightly colored orange road sections (pieced together to form an oblong, circular race track), using a single (or two) “super chargers” (faux service channels by which cars passed onto the paths, featuring battery-powered spinning wheels, which would propel the cars along the paths).

During the years, Hot Wheels cars have been collected mostly by children, but in the last 15 years[vague] there has been a growth in the number of mature collectors. Mattel estimates that 41 million kids grew up playing with all the toys, the normal collector has over 1,550 automobiles, and children between the ages of 5 and 15 have a mean of 41 cars. Most believe the collecting craze started with this Treasure Hunts in 1995. Mike Strauss was known as the father of Hot Wheels amassing; he has arranged two collectors’ occasions each year in some form since 1986. The very first event was the Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Convention, usually held each year at the autumn. The convention happened in various locations around the nation until 2001, once the very first Annual Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals was placed together. The Hot Wheels Collectors Nationals rotate among cities outside of California during the spring. Strauss has also published the quarterly Hot Wheels Newsletter since 1986 and has been among the very first to combine collectors all around the world. In addition, he writes the Tomart’s Guide To Hot Wheels, a publication listing history, auto descriptions and values, which can be used by nearly every collector to find out more about the hobby and also their own collection. Strauss sold his group from 2011 and retired from the Hot Wheels Newsletter.
